Job: Assistant Accountant

Description

We are looking for Assistant Accountant to assist management of all financial transactions, from fixed payments, variable expenses, bank payments and budgets. Assistant Accountant responsibilities include assist in managing the financial activities of the company, including bookkeeping, reconciliation and ledger reviews and calculating tax payments and returns. To be successful in this role, Assistant Accountant should have previous experience with bookkeeping and a keen eye for spotting numerical mistakes. Ultimately, Assistant Accountant will provide us with accurate quantitative information on financial position, while ensuring company compliant with all tax regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing the company’s monthly financial statements/MIS and provide analytical commentary on performances.
  • Prepare weekly payment schedule for all payments and ensure they are accurate and complete as per the internal approval policies.
  • Ensuring all statutory obligations (PAYE, VAT, WHT, and NSSF) and annual income taxes and provisions are filed and paid in time.
  • Perform monthly payroll analysis linking it to various cost drivers.
  • Review all transactions to make sure they are properly approved as per internal accounting best practices, recorded in line with GAAP and documented.
  • Provide financial review for advances, purchase requests, quotation analysis, purchase orders, expense report & payment requisition.
  • Coordinate and prepare weekly and monthly cash requirement for all departments, submit and make sure sufficient cash is available and monitor its use and accountability.
  • Make on the spot, weekly and monthly cash counts are being made and documented for all petty cash as per the current company policy.
  • Make sure all cash, bank and advances are reconciled with cash counts, bank statements and outstanding advances and General ledger.
  • Maintain all fixed asset registers, posting monthly depreciation, managing the insurance schedules and ensure all assets are under comprehensive coverage and insurance policies are up-to-date.
  • Provide planned technical support, back stopping, coaching and training to all finance staff.
  • Managing the Receivable & Payable, perform regular reconciliations, investigate any irregularities noted and resolve in consultation with the Accountant.
  • Ensure compliances with GAAPs/IFRS/IAS, Tanzanian and standard accounting practice.
  • Ensure data security of all finance data by regular monthly back-up for all staff.
  • Review and track all purchases and contracts and other commitments.
  • Participate in the preparation of the budget with all departments and ensure they are detailed as possible.
  • Implement and maintain proper document archiving systems that promote easy access to documents whenever needed.
  • Act as a contact point for all external audit queries during the final annual audits.
  • Assist other finance functions and offices whenever the need arises and other tasks to be assigned by the Accountant.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting& Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or any other related field.
  • Professional qualifications CPA or ACCA are a distinct advantage.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical competency.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel & QuickBooks and related data analysis tools.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role in a reputable company directly involved in Financial Reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to effectively lead, supervise and monitor teams.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and demonstrate integrity, independent thinking, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Proven capability to communicate clearly and concisely, both written and verbal, with people at all levels in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
